Pièce lyrique in five acts to a libretto by Henri Cain and Arthur Bernède after the novel by Alphonse Daudet
by arrangement with Editions Heugel, Paris / United Music Publishers Ltd, London
This double album was recorded on 26,29 October - 1 November 2001 during the Wexford Festival Opera which takes place in the town of Wexford in south-eastern Ireland. Sapho is an opera in five acts composed by the French composer, pianist and organist Jules Massenet. It was first performed on 27 November 1897 by the Opéra Comique company at the Théâtre Lyrique on the Place du Châtelet in Paris with Emma Calvé in the role of Fanny Legrand. A fascinating and effective opera, whose success is strongly linked to the charisma of the leading soprano, who has never earned a place in the standard operatic repertoire. Among the performers we find Piunti, Jovanovich, Gagliardo, Bienkowska, Pazos, Wexford Festival Opera Chorus, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Belarus, Jean-Luc Tingaud conductor, Lubomir Mátl chorus master etc...
