This prestigious album was recorded in two different times and places: Leonard Bernstein's Serenade for violin, strings, harp and percussion was recorded at the Teatro Unione in Viterbo in November 1998. While Krzysztof Penderecki's Violin Concerto was recorded in June 1987 at the Salone dei Cinquecento located inside the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence.
The Serenade for Violin, Strings, Harp and Percussion is a five movements concert written by Leonard Bernstein in 1954 and first performed at La Fenice in Venice by Isaac Stern and Igor Stravinsky.
Although the Serenade is for violin, strings, harp and percussion, the violin is the most prominent solo instrument. The work can therefore be considered essentially a violin concerto.
The Concerto for Violin and Orchestra was composed by Krzysztof Penderecki between 1974 and 1976.
This is the second work for violin and orchestra written by Penderecki. The Concerto was originally to have consisted of five movements, but working on the first movement, but while working on the first movement, Penderecki ended up focusing exclusively on this movement.
For the recording Giulio Cesare Ricci used the original Neumann U47, U48 and M49 tube microphones.
The master was made with the AMPEX ATR 102 (Electronic Tube Ampex Model 351-1965) 2 track 1/2" 30ips modified by David Manley.
The original analogue master for SACD is a transfer onto dCS A/D and D/A DSD 64 x 44.1 bit converters (Signoricci modification) with Signoricci ex Philips workstations running Pyramix programs.
The mastering of the SACD was carried out by Giulio Cesare Ricci using the entirely analogue and valve Signoricci's system. A state of the art system without any manipulation, all this to make the sound rich, fluid and exciting.
