THE BRESCIA AND BERGAMO FESTIVAL CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
Was founded in 1963 under the name of"Gasparo da Salò" on the initiative of Agostino Orizio and with the support of Countess Maria Bettoni Cazzago, Mrs. Esterina Comini Bozzi, and Mr. Ferruccio Francesconi. In 1964 it became the official ensemble of the "Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli" lntemational Piano Festival. Without neglecting its original task, that is the collaboration with the soloists playing at the Festival, the orchestra, composed of distinguished musician and conducted by Agostino Orizio, start cd soon after a activity of its own. lts programmes were mainlybased on the 18th Century chamberrepertoireand were drawing the international audience and ‘critics' attenction both upon unpublished or very unusual composition ns and more celebrated ones. The orchestra has performed successfully in the most famous halls and for the most important societies " in the world, among which the Hunter College of New York, the Constitution Hall in Washington, the Leningrad Philharmonic, the Conservatoirc of Moscow, the Beethovcnsaal in Bonn, the Conservatoire of Strasburg, the Mestska Knihovnadi of Prague, the Wiener Konzerthaus, the Bratislava Festival, Filharmonia Narodowa of Warsaw, the “Encscu" Festival in Bucharest, the Salle Gaveau in Paris, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan , the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Filarmonica Romana. the Settimane Musicali of Stresa. the G.O.G. of Genoa, the Unione Musicale and Settembre Musica ofTurin, the Amici della Musica of Florence, the Società del Quartetto and the Serate Musicali in Milan, Primavera concertistica di Lugano. etc. has performed also at the Vatican in the presence of Pope Paul VI, with A. Benedetti Michelangeli at the piano, in Strassburg for the European Council. and in the presence of the Italian President Sandro Pertini, at the XXII Festival opening concert. A number of performances have also been broadcasted by the radio and television networks of the visited c untries. Agostino Orizio's orchestra has accompanied many renowned soloists such as Martha Argerich, Viadimir Ashkenazy. Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Dino Ciani, Bella Davidovic, Annie Fischer, Severino Gazzelloni, the Duo Gulli-Cavallo, Nikita Magaloff. Rudolf Firkusny, Rudolf Buchbinder, Maria Tipo, the Trio di Trieste, Uto Ughi, Alexis Weissenberg, Christiane Jaccottet, Daniel Chorzempa, Peter Lukas Graf, Heinz Holliger etc. In 1987 it celebrates its 25th year of activity as well as its thousandth concert.
